Kakurin-ji Temple |

Said to have been established in 589 at the order of Prince Shotoku, Kakurin-ji Temple is East Harima's oldest ancient temple and is also known as the 'Horyu-ji Temple of Harima'. Horyu-ji Temple was once one of the Seven Great Temples of Japan.
The Main Hall, seen as you walk through the Niomon Gate, is a National Treasure of Japan and was built during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). Designed with an irimoya-styled roof, also known as the East Asian hip-and-gable roof, the building stands on the grounds with an air of dignity. The Taishido (Taishi Hall) next to it, also a National Treasure of Japan, was built during the Heian period (794-1185). There is a legend surrounding the temple's gold-plated bronze Seikannon Bodhisattva statue, made during the Nara period (710-794). It is said the statue was once stolen by thieves but just as they were about to melt it, they heard a cry of pain. Frightened, the thieves returned the statue and reformed their ways. This and many other precious Buddhist statues are occasionally displayed in the Treasure Museum.
The area around the Isseki-ichiji-tou (One Rock, One Word Monument) stone monument is called Furikiru-mon, a gate said to shake off bad things. Behind the monument is a Prayer Wheel which will rid you of wicked thoughts when you spin it.
Concerts are often held in the Main Hall and also other places in the temple grounds. There are grand performances with a synthesizer and even passionate flamenco dances. Watch as a unique world created from Japanese and Western cultures unfolds through the performances.
